Operating from a mindset of generosity creates so many more opportunities than operating from a mindset of selfishness and scarcity.
I’ve seen this over and over again in my life, and yet I still see so many people fighting tooth and nail to find tricks to get noticed.
What if you just stopped trying to get noticed and instead focused on doing good work and helping other people? What do you have to lose?
If what you’re doing now isn’t working, then you don’t have anything to lose by trying.
In my experience, generosity towards others and caring about the people in your community puts you ahead in the long run. Selfishness and self-promotion don’t. And if you don’t trust my experience, then look to Adam Grant for the research-backed argument for generosity as a philosophy for getting ahead.
I’m guilty of looking for shortcuts from time to time and I always get humbled in the process. That’s why I sound like a broken record on this. Every time I feel out of sync or anxious it’s because I’m giving what I don’t have or trying too hard to get noticed without doing the work to earn it.
Focus on the work and on being helpful. It works.
