Your career is far and away the best chance you have to make an impact in the world. If you want to maximize your impact on the world (outside of your family), then find a career based on your beliefs.
But let’s say you feel stuck in your current career and aren’t ready to make a leap. Or perhaps you have a career built on the impact you want to make. What if you want a way to get unstuck? What if there’s another cause you want to get involved with?
Nonprofit work is the perfect way to expand beyond your current reach. There are a few very simple ways to get involved with nonprofits:
- Become a donor
- Become a volunteer
- Become a member of the board of directors
These are ordered by level of difficulty. It’s easiest to hop on a website and make a donation. It’s a bit harder to get out of bed on a Saturday to volunteer. And it’s even harder to attend quarterly meetings and dedicate time, talent, and money to a board.
The caveat, of course, comes when you have more time to give than money, and in that case, donating and volunteering would be flipped.
