We need more people in the world who are willing to speak the truth as they see it. Too many people are quite simply willing to ignore bad work, intrusive actions, and hate-filled rhetoric. Why?
It is a huge disservice to convince someone they’re doing a good job when they’re capable of so much more. Or worse, when they’re truly not doing good work at all, to convince them otherwise because you’re too scared to help them grow.
Yes, they might (and likely will) get upset in the short term, but in the longer term they’ll thank you for helping them grow and see more. We aren’t aware of our own blind spots in most situations, and it takes a caring, honest person willing to give real feedback to change us.
The low bar we set for one another is disrespectful. It’s disrespectful to ourselves and disrespectful to one another. We have to expect more of each other in order to solve important problems.
Having an informed opinion matters. Build one and use it (with care) to change people.
